Supermarkets have been busy replenishing their selves to meet the sudden spike in grocery demand, egg, fish, vegetables, bread, rice, can food...as many turned to cooking at home during circuit breaker periods. As companies are encouraged to adopt Telecommuting, perhaps working from home 2 to 3 days a week, cooking at home is still a good option.
Using brown rice cooked in the pot. Stir fried chopped dried prawn shrimps, garlic and shallots. Marinated chicken cubes with cooking oil, salt, ground pepper, 5 spice powder, dark soya sauce and fry with dried shrimp, garlic, mushroom cubes, chestnut (pre-soaked), lotus seeds (pre-soaked). Stir fry glutinous rice (pre-soaked 4 hours). with chopped garlic, shallots, dark soya sauce, salt, 5 spice powder. Wrap with bamboo brown leaves and boil for 90 minutes.
Whisk in a mixing bowl, grapseed oil, raw honey with organic lemon myrtle, add 2 eggs. Add yogurt, Omega 3 fresh milk, baking soda, ground cinnamon and nutmeg spices, flour and whisk again. Add a bowl mix of 3 ripe banana cut in small cubes, crushed pecan nuts and Medjool dates and whisk again. Pre heat oven for 10 mins and bake for about 40 mins.

Working 8 hours or more at home requires a reqularly serviced airconditioning system. Some prefer to work in the office to avoid the spike in electricity bill. One can moderate electricity consumption by using ceiling fan when the environment is cooler, like in the morning.
Most households do not have ergonomic chairs like those workplaces provided by companies for health and safety of their employees. Some basic features of ergonomic office chairs include adjustable height and hand rests, full backrest and back lumber support. Have sufficient light for your home office and a desk lamp.
Working from home requires good WIFI connection to access to business working information and communication with fellow colleagues, bosses, business partners via email, slack and video communications , meetings and webinars using Zoom, Webex or Google Meet.
If you have an additional monitor screen, you can open different document in new window that makes work more productive. Equip with mini docking station for USB, HDMI, Lan, VGA.. connection to external monitor, mobile phone and other IT accessories. Wireless keyboard and wireless mouse keep your desk neat.
Now that companies and employees have gained the experience and momentum in the Work From Home mode of operation, since the circuit breaker measures were activated to stop the spread of COVID 19, it is the opportune time to move forward and incentivised companies to adopt "Telecommuting" to tackle the usual peak hour period public transport and road traffic congestions which previous programs such as Home-Based Work, Travel Smart and Flexible Work Arrangement (Flexi-Place, Flexi-Time) have not been successful in addressing. Companies may not have enough knowledge and experience or have not been convinced of the benefits of such programs then. There is also no or hardly any known experience consultancy firms which specialise in Telecommuting.
One MNC has been most successful in work from home operation which is a part of the overall Telecommuting concept - "Mobility Office" program (others call it hot-desking) in large scale since the mid 1990s. Primarily office-based employees in Sales and Regional roles work "anywhere at anytime" such as at client's place or work from home, adapting to schedules to meet business requirements with the flexibility to attend to family and personal matters. Mobile employees are expected to be contactable 24/7 on their mobile phones. The Mobility program participation also includes some non Sales, non Regional staff, Managers, Senior managers and to some extend the CEO. Mobile employee do not have a fixed-desk (workstation) but use any available shared “mobile workstation” when they go to the office. The ratio of mobile employees per mobile workstation such as 4:1 depends on the usage demand of mobile employees.

In contrast with employers allowing Office-based employees the flexibility to Work-From-Home, the impetus for promoting Home-based work is to provide a solution for businesses facing a manpower crunch by tapping into the rich resource pool of economically inactive residents, some of whom may not be able to leave home for Office-based work for various reasons, such as family care responsibilities. The guide explains how Infocomm Technology (ICT) plays an important role by providing the infrastructure and tools that connect home-based workers to their offices and clients.
The drive to get economically inactive residents for Home-based work is to assist companies with manpower crunch. While the drive to get companies to implement Flexi-Place (telecommuting) or Flexi-Time (e.g. staggered working hours) is to alleviate congestion on MRT and public buses which have always been challenging for LTA to cope. Earlier in 2011, LTA piloted a $1M travel smart initiative to get participating companies to work on flexible work arrangement to ease peak hour congestion on public transport which may arleady been replaced by other initiatives such as Work-Life Grant (WLG) for flexible work arrangements. Companies may apply for enhanced Work-Life-Grant for Flexible Work Arrangement incentive of up to $70,000 per company over 2 years to incentivise companies to sustain the implementation of FWAs for their local employees, effective 1 July 2018 (https://www.heybaby.sg/supporting-work-life-harmony/family-friendly-workplace-practices/work-life-grant).
Employer’s Guide to Implementing ICT-Enabled Home-Based Work developed in 2011 by The Tripartite Committee to address manpower crunch appears to have been put on a back burner as the focus has been shifted to dependent of subtantial foreign work force - Work Permit (non construction), S-Pass and Employment-Pass; The travel smart initiative in 2011, to get participating companies to work on flexible work arrangement to ease peak hour congestion on public transport did not seem to have further developments, while incentive driven Flexible Work Arrangement - Flexi-Place and Flexi-Time saw low participation rate : As of January 2019, only 1300 companies adopted the Tripartite Standard on Flexible Work Arrangements which was launced in October 2017 (Straits Times Mar 6, 2019 - https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/manpower/more-funds-available-to-help-companies-offer-flexi-work).
These intitiatives, though incentivised, have not been successful in getting companies at large to adopt Work-From-Home or telecommuting. COVID 19 pandemic resulted in implemention of Work-From-Home mode of operation as companies are required to close down their facilities when Circuit-Breaker preventive measures against the spread of the virus were applied from 7 April to 4 May and further extended to 1 June. Work-From-Home are expected to remain a default for sometime even after the economies open up.
No time to exercise - Work and family caregiving competing demands for time and energy leaving no time for a 30 minute brisk walk, jog or gym workout outside. When taking short breaks in between work at home, try to do 10 or 20 push ups that will take less than a minute and doing at intervals of 2 to 3 hours. Beside toning up arm muscles and strengthening abdominal muscles, push ups improve cardiovascular fitness.
Not having done push-ups after more than a decade I started doing one push up, increasing gradually over time. Consult your doctor before doing strenuous exercise and listen to your body as you exercise.
