Can't help been tempted by the bags of spicy roasted whole chicken, appeared sizzling in the brightly lighted oven along the main aisle at the new NTUC FairPrice Extra Supermarket Parkway Parade outlet. It is good value for money at only $4.90 each. Pepper hot and tasty deep through the inside of the whole chicken. Savour the chicken as it is, make sandwich with the chicken slices or prepare a salad meal with spinach, avocado, guava, strawberry, cherry tomato, nuts and seeds.

Direct from sea freshly packed Red Lion Snapper one-side about 7-inch long deboned fish fillet from NTUC Fairprice supermarket at 'Our Tampines Hub', 3 fillets for $27.00@$3.89 per 100grams. Pan fried the fish with different cooking styles; black bean sauce or black soy sauce or rubbed with McComick ground Turmeric and add combinations of garnishing - ginger strips, parsley, Leek, finely chopped garlic, spring onion and red cut chilli.

Being Peranakan, my late mum cooked spicy meals, curry dish a part of regular meal. In my early teen, while she was washing and scrubbing clothes on wooden scrub board in the  morning,  among the grocery items I jotted down as she spoke was "Kari Lempas chilli". I bought the traditional curry paste wrapped in banana leaf, from an Indian lady dressed in sari, at Alexandra market, a km away from home. 

After having bought various brands of curry paste in recent years from NTUC Fairprice, I finally bought a package of traditional “Kari Lempas” As-Sufi brand sold by the supermarket - whipped up a delicious traditional curry chicken dish with good amount of potatoes. 

Traditional Indian curry paste is hard to find in the market these days; there is one legacy Indian stall  that still sell the “Kari Lempas at Kebun Baru Market, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.

When buying Broccoli look at the underside of flower heads to make sure that they are green and not yellow (ripening and dropping). Unfortunately most Broccoli vegetables sold here have ripening yellow flower heads and some restaurants, salad stalls, Zhi Char and mixed economy rice use Broccoli vegetables with yellow flower heads at the underside. You could find better quality green Broccoli (like those in image below) at NTUC Fairpice Extra at Ang Moe Kio Hub, though not all the time. "Broccoli can prevent artery clogging because it is loaded with vitamin K, which prevents calcium from damaging the arteries. Broccoli also prevents cholesterol oxidation and is full of fiber, which lowers blood pressure and reduces stress. Stress can lead to tearing and plaque build-up of arterial walls. Turn the box upside down and pick the box with generally bigger berries, consistently dark blue (not pinkish or ripen) 

Before NTUC Fairprice entry into the supermarket scene, were Cold Storage and Fitzpatricks. NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Limited was founded by the Labour Movement in 1973, with a social mission to moderate the cost of living in Singapore, selling products cheaper than Cold Storage and Fitzpatricks. Over time Seng Shiong, Giant and Prime entered the supermarket arena selling ranges of quality products at cheaper prices in modern airconditioning comfort, keeping NTUC Fairprice in check. Don't rush into buying Blueberry just from Fairprice but check with Giant (if within close proximity). When Giant ran out of stock, Blueberry price at Fairprice would shoot up and when Giant ran a promotion, Fairprice would then sell at prices on par. 

Pick a piece of Salmon slab from the supermarket that is evenly thick, less tapered. Remove the row of bones with the pincer or your strong finger tip grip. Pan fried, grilled, oven baked till the Salmon is golden glazed or steam it. Baking in the oven with the frosty residue remaining in the raw Salmon gives a nice barbecue aroma even without marinating it.
